The busy summer season continued this week for Arklow Lifeboat when they received two emergency calls in the space of 24 hours to assist two yachts. The first call was to a 42ft yacht called Whistler, which was heading down the cost from Dun Laoghaire, the yacht had nine people on board, four of them children, when it ran aground off Mizen head near Brittas Bay. The lifeboat towed the yacht off the bank, where it was able to then continue on its own.
Twenty four hours later a Southampton registered yacht called the 'Claymore', which was carrying four English people, developed engine trouble one and a half miles off from Arklow whilst it was travelling en-route to Arklow. The lifeboat put two men onboard the yacht and towed it back to Arklow port for repairs.
